Yes, it's still true. Mpls pays the largest share into the Met Council funds, which are still being used to pay for extending water & sewer into outlying farmland so the suburbs can expand yet further. Then once they've developed, they demand gas tax money to pay for new roads extending our further. At one point Minneapolis even paid for extending the water mains into suburban areas. I don't know if that's still true or not.WizardMarks, Central
Even more: they have recently taken official notice that combined sewer & street drainage piping is a bad thing, and causes overflows at the sewage treatment plants when there are sudden heavy rainstorms, thus sending untreated sewage into the river. They finally officially decided this is a bad thing. So now the Met Council is planning to work with cities to dig up and separate these drainage systems, adding Met Council money to help the cities pay for this very expensive work. But Minneapolis as been working on this for many years, and is nearly done with it within Minneapolis -- all paid for with Minneapolis funds. Now that it's being done in the suburbs, it's suddenly a "metro-wide problem" that has to be paid for by all of us. Anybody want to bet on the chances of Minneapolis getting reimbursed by the Met Council for the money it's already spent on doing this?
