This is my second attempt at this response. After I hit "send" it disappeared, my screen went blank, and nothing wound up in my "Sent" box. So I am going to try again. I hope this is not, therefore, a repeat. This is my first post to this list. It is exciting to read. Many good things. Shawn writes about a very curious incident about a favorite institution. The article he cites raises three questions: (1) In light of the disempowerment complaints of Florida 2002, how is it that Blacks in the local NACCP could so easily disempower Blacks in Minneapolis? (2) How is it that in this election, with 115 Black voters who supported Ron Edwards being disqualified, that of those who voted for the winner, 85% were White? And (3) Can the NAACP be considered a legitimate "spokesgroup" for Blacks or anyone else when it has fewer than 400 members while there are 20,000 - 30,000 Blacks in Minneapolis? I am writing to invite you to look back from the future with me to view Minneapolis and attempt to understand it. I believe you will find that understanding Minneapolis now or in 5 years will still go through the same prism of insights of The Minneapolis Story, Through My Eyes, by Ron Edwards as told to Peter Jessen. In Chapter 14, "The Role of Minneapolis Black Organizations in The Minneapolis Story," Ron explains. His chapter is subtitled: "Black Organizations: Now Part of the Problem Rather than the Solution." Now don't be like those who condemn books and movies without either reading or seeing them. Please read the chapter before you respond. Ron's new book is available in Minneapolis book stores. Ron is not negative, just truthful, and he also shows how the NAACP can be effective again. I urge all of you to get the book and read this chapter. The motion in Hennepin County District Court was filed in response to a lawsuit served on the NAACP on behalf of 25 members, but not filed by them in court. Those members signed an election complaint alleging that not all eligible voters had been allowed to vote because an old membership list was used to decide eligibility. http://www.startribune.com/stories/462/3663443.html Shawn Lewis, Field Neighborhood -- _______________________________________________ Sign-up for your own FREE Personalized E-mail at Mail.com http://www.mail.com/?sr=signup Meet Singles http://corp.mail.com/lavalife TEMPORARY REMINDER: 1.
