The Tyesha Edwards 1st Annual Skate For Peace was a lot of fun. It was
attended by a ratio of about 10 youth to every adult, with the attendance
being over 400. B 96 showed a lot of support by bringing their hip-hop crew
and the personality of the Queen Bee (the kids loved her). There were a
number of giveaways. Everything from dinner for two at Currans restaurant to
a Kevin Garnett jersey and two lower-level game tickets to a Timberwoloves
game. Tyesha Edwards tee-shirts were given out and B 96 gave out hankies and
other promotional items. MADDADS were in the house, and several groups
brought youth to the event. The Minneapolis Foundation allocated $1,000 to go
for a 50/50 match for funds raised. The Minneapolis Empowerment Zone office
assisted with the event in many ways also. I took a personal survey of who
would come back next year, 100% of persons I asked said that they will be
back. The family was busy making sure that everyone had a good time, I admire
their will to work at making the world a better place for all kids, starting
right from their home. When I arrived to help with transportation of kids,
their house was full of kids that had received personal invitations by the
family to the event. Most were friends of Tyesha, some were kids from the
neighborhood that have recently connected to the family and want to be
involved. The family continued to give by offering tickets to those that
could not afford the $5 suggested donation. The main thing was fun for the
kids, and the participation of everyone supported the theme of community
peace. The event was taped and will air on public access television. I will
post the date and time once I receive them.

Peace
