David Strand writes: Barb's (Johnson) statements to Que Press following the vote on the equal benefits ordinance specifically referenced fear of the influence of the MFC through the state legislature. She stated the possibility of retribution from conservative legislators towards Minneapolis by threatening the cities LGA.
<snip> Hopefully Barb Johnson will be less careless in making statements that only serve to encourage those who want to have bigotry drive our state's(or by deference city's) public policy. David Strand Loring Park <TN> David, (and list members) I wouldn't count on it. For these reasons: 1: We're loosing our LGA no matter what. Pat Awada has more or less seen to it that only communities like Eagan will not be affected by LGA cuts. 2: CM Johnson has consistantly voted for the more conservative oriented positions (ie, voting against subpoena power for civilian review, voting against federal mediation between community and police, voting against domestic partners, voting to close the Hard Times in 2001 and being the only council member to openly support the police brutality that was used against the ISAG protesters, Single handedly stopping any atempt to buy out our brutal and incompitent police chief....who of course lives in her ward?!?) Since, like park commisioner Walt Dzeidic (who I have the honor of having been yelled at by;)) she generally runs unnopposed or with only token opposition, she doesn't ususally have to worry about being ethically accountable to those in Minneapolis who are affective negatively by her policies, no matter how she votes. CM Johnson is one of our most conservative legislators and one of the most powerful members on the current council. I don't buy any explaination that she is intimidated by anyone, even the Republican House. We do still have a DFL Senate that is relatively supportive of Minneapolis. If Barb Johnson really believed in domestic partners, she could certainly hold her own. Tamir Nolley Holland Ward 3 __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
