>From yesterday's e-mails: For Immediate Release March 13, 2003 Minneapolis South repeats state high school mock trial championship. Reigning champion Minneapolis South High School emerged as the winner of the 2003 Minnesota Mock Trial State Tournament held this week in St. Cloud. The win came after South successfully argued its case in the championship trial against the team from Lakeville High School Wednesday afternoon. South is coached by teacher Phylis Hayes and attorneys John Borger, Kim Falker and Pat Yoedicke. The state tournament is a challenging two-day event for the 12 teams who qualify after winning their regional competitions around the state. Each team competed in three trials Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. Scores were tabulated, and the two highest scoring teams moved on to the championship. This year's final trial was presided over by Chief Judge Edward Toussaint of the Minnesota Court of Appeals. South's team will represent Minnesota at the National High School Mock Trial Championship in New Orleans May 8 through 11. SB here: The List's Judy Borger is married to the aforementioned John Borger, and is the proud mother of Nick Borger, who was recognized indiviually for his student-attorney skills.
