PURPOSE. The purpose of a PO District is to "preserve and encourage the pedestrian character of commercial areas and to promote street life and activity by regulating building orientation and design and accessory parking facilities, and by prohibiting certain high impact and automobile-oriented uses."

WM: I've now heard this "prohibiting certain ... automobile-oriented uses" from MCDA, the city, and some developers.
I'm very curious about why all three want to remove automobile uses from Lake St. and Broadway. They've been there for many years, we're accustomed to looking for those services in those areas. Why are these businesses a corky no-no at this point? As much as I can tell, we're still driving cars, buying cars, selling cars, fixing them and washing them and probably even kissing them.
Would someone like to jump in here and explaining the reasoning behind this prohibiting?
