I am not a fan of the access project, I think it is wastefull and excessive. However, eliminating the ramps between Lake street and 46th street entirely sounds disconnected from reality. Will all the traffic that currently exits for the greater Uptown area be exiting at 46th street and backtracking?
The Kingfield board recently approved a resolution calling for an alternate to the access project which involved maintaining the current ramps but with some other changes to distribute traffic better and encourage mass/public transit. I don't have the detailed proposal but if someone could post it here that could be an interesting discussion as a viable alternative worth some research, something the access project proponents have pointed to as lacking in the discussion to date.

>As many of you know, the 35W Access Project would
>
>- add ramps to Lake Street, including the flyover ramp
>that would eliminate 17 units of affordable housing,
>- move ramps from 35th and 36th to 38th
>- double the width of Lake Street from 3rd Ave. to
>Blaisdell, and
>- widen right-of-way on 35W to allow room for
>so-called High Occupancy Vehicle lanes.

>STRIDE believes that a widened freeway with more ramps
>is not the most efficient way to ease congestion or
>stem air pollution in our neighborhoods.
>
>STRIDE proposes an alternative which would more
>efficiently ease congestion while improving air
>quality in the area. We propose:
>
>Leaving ramps at Lake Street as they are.
>
>A Bus Rapid Transit line down the center of 35W, with
>stops at 46th/42nd, 38th/36th and Lake Street/Midtown
>Greenway.
>
>Eliminating the 35th and 36th street exits.
>
>We also suggest that the busway be integrated
>seamlessly with a streetcar line in the midtown
>greenway and a traffic-calmed Lake Street. This would
>be a part of the Lake Street Project Advisory
>Committee.
>
>We will be presenting our alternative, complete with
>photos and maps detailing our plan, at a public
