List members, Thank you for your continued interest in the 35W/Lake Street situation.
As many of you know, the 35W Access Project would - add ramps to Lake Street, including the flyover ramp that would eliminate 17 units of affordable housing, - move ramps from 35th and 36th to 38th - double the width of Lake Street from 3rd Ave. to Blaisdell, and - widen right-of-way on 35W to allow room for so-called High Occupancy Vehicle lanes. STRIDE believes that a widened freeway with more ramps is not the most efficient way to ease congestion or stem air pollution in our neighborhoods. STRIDE proposes an alternative which would more efficiently ease congestion while improving air quality in the area. We propose: Leaving ramps at Lake Street as they are. A Bus Rapid Transit line down the center of 35W, with stops at 46th/42nd, 38th/36th and Lake Street/Midtown Greenway. Eliminating the 35th and 36th street exits. We also suggest that the busway be integrated seamlessly with a streetcar line in the midtown greenway and a traffic-calmed Lake Street. This would be a part of the Lake Street Project Advisory Committee. We will be presenting our alternative, complete with photos and maps detailing our plan, at a public meeting: Saturday March 29, 10-12 Fifth Precinct Police Station 31st and Nicollet Our hope is that an Environmental Impact Study be conducted to determine whether our alternative is a more sustainable and effective plan. This plan is open to change. Please come offer your comments at our meeting on Saturday. www.stride-mn.org for more info Jeff Carlson, Whittier __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
