Hey,

I'm one of those souls who love to live in the city and probably
won't live anywhere else.

And I'm willing to pay higher taxes, even lots higher, to live in
the city. But I don't think I should have to pay higher property taxes just
because I live in the city.

The powers that be need to explain to me why the taxes are higher.
Most of the people I know are willing to pay higher taxes, but they, like
me, are not confident that we're getting what we pay for. If we're paying
higher taxes for better parks, better roads, better schools, better
programs, better social services -- great. (I feel the same way about the
current discussion at the state level.)

That's one of the reasons I loved the referendum on class sizes.
The school board promised that if the referendum passed, class sizes would
decrease. The referendum passed and the class sizes decreased. I know it
can't always be that simple, but wouldn't it be great if it was.
