Peter Schmitz writes:

A question for both Shawn Lewis and Michelle Gross: Given Mayor Rybak's
deplorable record so far regarding police-community relations, who would
you support for Mayor if early elections were called this year for Mayor
as well as City Council Representatives? In this forum last week there
was a lot of speculation that Peter McLaughlin was interested in running
against the Mayor. Is he a viable candidate for those wishing to address
police brutality?

Scott here:
I'm not posting to talk about Peter's opinions about the Mayor's electoral
chances or potential opponents, but the early elections that he refers to
would only apply to the City Council this year because their Ward boundaries
were redistricted (a very unlikely situation at this point). With all the
mayoral candidate speculation lately on the list I think it's only right to
point out that the next election for Mayor will not be until 2005 regardless
of what happens with the council. Although, since Presidential speculation
is a year round phenomena I guess we're all entitled to speculation about
something that is quite a ways off yet.

Stocking up in case we get buried alive...
