[Jordan Kushner] I have not received any feedback from any city
officials about my suggestion a few days ago that the city should
refuse to spend money to suppress protests against the federal
government.

[TB] Having seen nothing that suggests the protesters were doing
nothing more than maybe walking down the street and standing around en
mass in front of the Federal Courthouse, why were all of the cops
there? Were they trying to incite something? Our Police Department
seems to have a habit of over reacting to the possibility that
something might happen, witness the 10 foot barriers they put up for
the ISAG convention a couple of years ago and the streets and skyways
they closed for the Police Chiefs convention last year. Can't say that
I heard any reports of anyone mugging a cop who came to the convention.
Hey, our cops were prepared just in case.

I'm not sure that the events at the Courthouse were any more disruptive
than the basketball tournament a few blocks away at the Dome. Maybe
even less so.

Now we have a Governor who essentially wants to bill people for being
arrested because the senior management of the Police Department decides
to send a bunch of cops to a non-event. Lets get back to "all politics
is local" and not get overly reactive when some folks in Washington
(and maybe St. Paul) start waving orange flags. Spend a little less
time listening to Stanek and Ashcroft and listen to the folks in
Minneapolis who aren't doing anything more than voicing their opinions.
Last I checked, that is still a legal activity.

Guess I wouldn't expect any response from our city officials (Mayor,
Police Chief), they're to afraid that they might offend someone.
