I think Mork is on to something here.
One of the things that always jumped out at me when I shopped at Cub @ 27th and
Lake was the ambiance of being in a big city -- because of the heterogenousness
(is that a word?) of the clientele. I mean, Cub ain't no Lund's. Entirely
different shopping experiences and I'm not talking about what's stocked
(although there's a big difference in that too).
I think having a Cub store does attract a broader clientele from further away,
and maybe that is part of what Cub is trying to accomplish at 46th & Hiawatha.
>From anecdotes, I know that shopping at some of the Cubs in the city is hectic,
especially parking -- the place is packed during the most convenient hours. No
doubt they do need more stores, and do draw from a broader geographic area.
As far as Highland Park not wanting to attract the same clientele into their
upper-crust suburb, I can't say. But, it is an interesting thought to ponder.

But the Cub at 27th & Lake sold a big winning lottery ticket
