Company with property-flipping past seeks city business

A mortgage and construction company
hoping to profit from the redevelopment
of the former north Minneapolis public
housing site has a history of making
huge gains on the rapid resale of
property.

City officials say that they are
concerned, but that they were unaware
that the Genesis Consulting Group had
resold dozens of homes, often within
a single day and for almost twice the
original purchase price, until
contacted by the Star Tribune.

"Obviously, that's a major issue for us,"
said Kim Havey, a city official
overseeing development of what is now
called Heritage Park. "I don't want to
presume that they're guilty until we
take a look at it," Havey said.

City Council Member Natalie Johnson Lee
said she expects city development
officials to make sure that developers
do right by the community and those who
buy homes in Heritage Park.
