Thor, NRRC partnership seeks Heritage
homebuilder rights strategic alliance
builds local equity

by Dwight Hobbes, Contributing
Writer

Northside Residents Redevelopment Council (NRRC)
, Sienna Corporation and Thor Construction
have teamed to form the partnership
Heritage Housing, LLC. The objective is to
realize self-empowerment in North
Minneapolis through the development of housing.
This entails bringing 166 houses to the north
side of Olson Memorial Highway and 200 houses
to the highway's south side as well as developing
40 houses on in-fill lots in North
Minneapolis. Heritage Housing, LLC will compete
in the bidding to replace housing that was
removed by court order from the areas south
and north of Olson Memorial Highway.

NRRC was established to empower residents
of the Near North/Willard-Hay
Minneapolis neighborhoods to be the primary
agents for improving social, economical and
general livability standards of the
neighborhood. The non-profit organization's
primary goal is to bring about positive
social change, foster self-determination
and facilitate active community
involvement.

According to Sherri Pugh, NRRCs
executive director, "The value of the
Heritage Park partnership starts with
NRRC's commitment as a community-based
organization. We look at what's happened
in the development of Heritage Park and
listen to the anxiety of community members
about feeling they are not a part of the
development of a major development strategy
in the heart our neighborhood. We felt
it was important that we look at how to
bring an opportunity for multiple builders
to build and participate in a project that
will provide jobs and entrepreneurial
opportunities for minority contractors and
vendors."
