I'm sure the Target site is too large for this but is their any move on
West Broadway for a "Mercado Central" type operation? The Lake and Bloomington
complex, if anyone is unaware of it, has many small storefronts within for
local entrepreneurs (almost all Mexican/American in this case) to try out their
retail concepts on the relative cheap . If their concept becomes popular
enough, they tend to spin off and open a larger store somewhere nearby. I am
unaware of their financial records of course but it seems like a very good idea and
something the Northside could really use for any potential local business
owners.
The local Mexican/Americans have created a number of good businesses on
Lake where before there was mostly porn and boarded emptiness. This idea is
certainly no large answer to anything but local owners opened most all of the
now defunct storefronts on Broadway and creating a sort of fetal pool for low
resourced risk takers would seem a decent concept to start another generation
of locally run outfits ( ok, I'm not exactly a business major. I rather doubt
"fetal pool" is anything discussed in board rooms. I was going to delete it
but it's so weird I thought I'd leave it so the real business majors can savage
me---this list is getting more mean spirited on a daily basis}.
Anyway, I'd like to hear if this idea is getting any talk anywhere.
