While I regularly disagree with Michael about the extent and import of NRP's
alleged misdeeds, I must defend him here.

Yes, there are larger wastes out there, but a local citizen has every right
to criticize a local program he believes is wrong. Different people have
different priorities. I am glad there are people focused on national,
international and global problems. I am also glad they focus on things
closer to home. I view it as diversity. (Also, Pentagon critiques, in
general, are not appropriate for the Minneapolis-focused list.)

One of the virtues of NRP - and indeed, of all Minneapolis-specific issues -
is that they are literally closer to home, where we have more chance to
observe them carefully ourselves. Michael, like many of us, has been
directly involved in the NRP process. But if I believe NRP is good because
it is close to home, I must also accept that other people differ. All I ask
is that all sides prove their case when they make it.
