Now that the legislature has adjourned, you ought to be able to go over to the State Capital complex in St. Paul and haul away as much of the left over BS is you want. This session will long be remembered by the magnitude of manure manufactured. Only time will tell whether or not stuff will grow in it, but right now I wouldn't use it to fertilize anything of value. But it ought to keep weeds alive for this growing season anyway.

Subject: [Mpls] Is there still free compost in Mpls ?
Date: Sat, 31 May 2003 16:01:46 -0500

Was looking to get some free compost in Minneapolis at the 620 Malcolm
Street SE site, where I've been going for the past couple of years. I am
told that they no longer give away free compost, but charge $12 per cubic
yard. They charge less for smaller loads like the 5 gallon buckets in my
trunk. Additionally, they told me that the 620 Malcolm site is temporarily
out of compost, and I should go to the Pierce Butler Route site about 4
blocks east of Snelling Ave. in St. Paul - which I did and had to pay $5 for
7 five-gallon buckets full.

I also checked out the U of M St Paul campus site that I had heard about.
There I found a notice telling me I should go to the Pierce Butler site.

Does anyone happen to know of any place in or near Mpls where a gardener can
still get free compost? Also, I would like to know where I can get some
free, or almost free, shredded wood mulch?

wild turkey poking around in Bassett Creek Park. Wondering if this could
possibly be the first sighting of a wild turkey within the city boundaries
of Minneapolis in recent decades? It is the first I've ever heard of.)
