I live within a block of 4 bars near downtown and one of them frequently has plenty of motorcycles at. There's a lot of noise every time they throw out the bottles in the alley. Sometimes these things are somewhat annoying but more often than not its great to have a selection of bars so close by.
I don't own the bars and I chose to live here so I really don't think I have any authority to tell the bar owners they shouldn't be able to be open until 2AM. Obviously, if they are violating noise ordinances or if their patrons violate the law in any way, the violators should be held accountable. But other than breaking the laws, it doesn't seem fair to dictate to them to business owners when they can and cannot be open. Furthermore I think limiting bar times in the neighborhoods will likely lead to more people going downtown for last call. A big rush downtown is one of the current problems RT was hoping to reduce by extending the bar time. Regarding the rush out of downtown at bar close: After leaving a downtown parking ramp around bar time I have been forced onto the highway since the police barricade 1st and 2nd avenues downtown. I have told the police that I need to go on the local road since I live on it but they would not allow it. Is this the actual policy that we all most go on the highway or are the police supposed to allow residents through the barricade? If the redirect to the highway is the policy it is a real slap in the face to the 30,000 or so who live downtown that they still have to drive several miles on the highway to get home if they happened to drive to the bars and park in a municipal ramp.
