The REASON cops, wherever they come from, need to understand what goes on in the neighborhoods where they patrol is to avoid the "accidents" about which we read in the newspaper so frequently, the ones that are "internally investigated" and are found to be tragically inevitable. City folk are somewhat weary of suburbanites coming into our town, putting on a uniform, and then going out to kill the locals. There IS no hunting season on Minneapolis humans, and that doesn't vary by color or age. So don't tell us about the "crap" that goes on in the northside. That will NEVER be an excuse for killing innocent city dwellers. And we need to screen out the suburbanites who think differently.
Cops hired on "merit"? How many notches on your gun handle does that require? *********************** Fines. If the city collects revenue from fines, is there really a basis for complaint. My thought is that laws which include monetary penalties should be repealed if they don't serve the best interests of we who live here. However, if we DON'T repeal it, then people should realize when they get fined, it is because it has been decided that serves the collective interest. And also that fines are possible to avoid legally. So no fine is forced on anyone. ********************** I'm sorry that people can't read what I say for comprehension. When I say neighbors know enough about each other to bridge misunderstandings, I simply mean that when you come from a common base of experience, you learn to read between the lines and give actions and worth an empathic interpretation. As some suburban posters demonstrate, when you come from an alien culture, you can tend to apply your own filter and give a HOSTILE interpretation to things dimly know. This often has fatal and tragic results, as we know from reading the post mortem comments of police on these situations. That is part of the reason they wanted more nonwhite cops, to include some of that experience in the police force. But I guess when some of these nonwhite cops see what happen to their own people, they get too angry and frustrated to stay on the force. They are strangled by the bureaucracy that doesn't want to solve the problems. To save their own health, they get out. ******************** Edgy Ads: Well, I don't doubt that they will get some business with these ads. But the people who respond the strongest are the first to get tired, so they will leave to seek other naughty thrills. But the inundations of graphic messages is a problem everywhere. The only peace of mind available is simply to tune out all messages. No one NEEDS any of these messages. So the downside of paying attention is far greater than the downside of pretending none of them exist. Chino Latino may be forgetting about the Hawthorne Effect. All changes produce short term results. ****************** There are only "endless possibilities" for those who live and breathe hostility for the city of Minneapolis. ****************** After reading the letters on street closures in downtown, it occurred to me what I WOULD like the police to do. Station a couple of them in problem bars and breathalyze everybody as they head for their cars. Who knows? Some innocent person might have his or her life saved. PLUS the would-be driver might get home alive, too. ===== Jim Mork Cooper-Longfellow-Minneapolis (L'Etoile du Nord) --------------- "Fascism should more properly be called corporatism, since it is the merger of state and corporate power." Benito Mussolini ... __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
