In the middle of 2002 a resident of my apartment building lost his job. He is a 52 year old single man. He has no family.
He has not paid rent for a long time and now owes more than $5000. He was waiting for social security to start (due to his disability). 12 months later, there is still no social security. I can't afford this, so last week I won an eviction case against him and today the sheriff escorted him to the door. He left behind all of his belongings. Pictures. Books. Clothes. Furniture. *Everything.* He didn't even pack a bag -- leaving with only the clothes he was wearing and his medication. The Hennepin county sheriff counseled him and ultimately drove him somewhere to get help. I have been in this business since 1989. Evictions no longer bother me. This time is different. A solid contributor to society. He paid his dues. And Social "security" cannot perform in less than 12 months. Should anyone feel secure covered by a program like this? The homeless problem in Mpls is worst tonight. And, like you, he is a good person. He is frightened. He cried. Bill Cullen. Hopkins & Uptown. TEMPORARY REMINDER: 1. Don't feed the troll! Ignore obvious flame-bait. 2. If you don't like what's being discussed here, don't complain - change the subject (Mpls-specific, of course.) ________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A City-focused Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
