Corporate philanthropy may be gaining steam again

The way social worker Richard Spratt sees
it, the corporate commitment of General
Mills Inc. has been the key factor in lowering
crime and returning optimism to Hawthorne,
a once-declining neighborhood in north
Minneapolis.

"This would not have happened without
them," said Spratt, a Hennepin County
employee who works with the neighborhood's
children and families. "You can absolutely
document the period of time when change
began to occur."
