I always love to see the way people discuss the
Drug War, arrogance being their chief weapon.
Evidence? We don't need no stinking evidence.
The criminals use MJ because it is illegal and
they are into whatever is illegal. Of course,
lots of people not in jail also use it, so what
is their reason? It's a "gateway drug", no doubt
about it. Yet, the overwhelming majority never
USE the gateway. So that sort of makes the phrase
irrelevant, doesn't it? And that makes me wonder
one more thing about our jail. Are you subjected
to mandatory extraction of blood as soon as
you're booked? Do the laws allow that? I mean,
you can't even FRISK someone out on the street
without probable cause. But a person who hasn't
even been indicted can be blood-tested?

Just more fun in the annals of Minneapolis law
enforcement. The rub, of course, is the
unwillingness of the average citizen to OBJECT to
this stuff. "Oh, they're just criminals, why
should we care?" Well, if you don't know, I'm
not sure you'll listen to an explanation.

I think they did just fine when they recruited
Olson. The only thing they MIGHT do different is
talk about police violence at the interview and
check the individual's background in that regard.
But when it comes down to the nitty gritty, they
need to find someone who can focus on keeping the
crime rate minimum possible. That, finally, is
what the residents here want. One thing I'm
wondering is if Olson had the OPTION to buy a
house in the city or he did it for PR. It was
good PR if that was it. It gave him an edge on
the police union which overwhelmingly represented
nonresidents.

When I read "rouge cops", I thought there was
something inscrutable there I didn't understand.
Now I see it is a scrambler game, and if you swap
the u and g, suddenly it makes sense. It's funny
to me because my fingers do that all the time.

On this same subject, I think I agree that the
boldest position on police violence, when you're
trying to get the facts, is not always the
smartest one. You have to create an environment
in which facts CAN come out. A lynch mob
atmosphere does not enhance that likelihood.
However, when a cop has beaten someone up, you do
have to think about the feelings of the beaten,
too. Strange to say, they are not always
criminals who "got what was coming to them".

Good cops should want real facts to come out, not
just whatever line the Police Federation has
decided to take.
