Here are a few examples of older family owned businesses on the rooted but dynamic Central Ave in Nordeast - Jerry Rekuski of Rekuski Paint runs a store that has been in operation since 1936 still featuring as Jerry has put it, "good goods". Jerry's son operates the contracting arm of the operation which has been around since 1956. Higgin's Insurance which is still a father/son outfit has been around since the mid 40's. Larson-Osborne Mortuary has been in business since the mid 20's. I beleive Central Carwash is currently run by the children of the original owner and has been around since the 60's if not earlier. Marino's, Totino's and the Ideal Diner have all been around for some time (seemingly forever)but I would have to check to get there respective start dates. That is just a sample from Central Ave. There are all those neighborhood pubs. Perhaps some research is in order......
