Issue: Old Minneapolis
Hurray for Tim for remembering Schatzlein. I read a story on how farmers used to bring their implements to Schatzlein back in 1912 when it was all farmlard south of Lake Street. So, Schatzlein is a REAL oldie that is hanging on. And in Minneapolis, that's some kind of miracle. We seem not to value our past as much as we ought.

Issue: Race Bias
I am wondering what exactly the people want who are pushing the list to take a position on the incident described at Market BBQ. What we have is an informal affadavit from one side. I don't think it is unreasonable at all, at this point, to take a neutral position. This is not a court of law. Nobody is taking any oaths. And if the story wasn't anonymous, I think that's because this list doesn't ALLOW anonymous charges to be made. My own feeling is that the story doesn't sound good, but I wasn't there, so I'm not going to make flamboyant statements on the basis of testimony by total strangers. That's a principle of mine, and I'm not changing it.

Issue: City appointments

I, too, would like the mayor to explain how a developer can get one of its number in a critical city government agency. Is this a revolving door? Remember mayor, too much coziness with developers is part of what convinced the voters to turn out a big part of the council and the last mayor. You don't want to make your government look like another group of insiders. Even if they do have nice resumes. Voters don't buy that kind of PR. We've been there before.

Minneapolis, a great city getting greater (much to the disgruntlement of a few)
