The Community Development Committee of the Minneapolis City Council will
conduct a public hearing on Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at 1:30 p.m., in Room
317, City Hall, 350 S 5th St, to consider a proposed ordinance that would
create a new department of Community Planning and Economic Development
(CPED). The new department would include the current Minneapolis Community
Development Agency (MCDA), Planning Department, Minneapolis Employment and
Training Program (METP), and the Minneapolis Empowerment Zone (EZ). Creation
of this department was authorized in a special law that was recently adopted
by the State of Minnesota and this is the next organizational step in the
ongoing improvement of the city's development process known as Focus
Minneapolis.

The proposed ordinance can be viewed here:

Written copies are available from Julie Bartell at 612-673-2296. Questions
about the ordinance can be directed to Jeff Schneider, CPED senior project
manager, at 612-673-5124.

For sign language interpreting, call 612-673-2626 TTY.
