The "geographic/classist" lakes dispute reminds me of one of my all-time favorite Minneapolis ax-grinds: the Northeast gripe about "Lake Sandy."
Walt Dziedzic first clued me in when I was young Twin Cities Reader reporter. Apparently the legend is that dredging from the south side's Chain of Lakes was used to fill in Northeast's only lake, Lake Sandy, now the Columbia Park golf course. I'll admit I've done no research into the topic, though my guess is it's a too-perfect metaphor for class resentments (never mind that Lake Sandy is a golf course now). Anyone know if the legend is true or not? David Brauer King Field Southwest Minneapolis - Land of Milk, Honey and Milfoil - but no golf courses! TEMPORARY REMINDER: 1. Don't feed the troll! Ignore obvious flame-bait. 2. If you don't like what's being discussed here, don't complain - change the subject (Mpls-specific, of course.) ________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A City-focused Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
