I also mourn the loss of Lake Sandy. Somebody should
begin an archeological study of the area to unearth the
boat houses and pavilions of those 72-hour a week laborers
(for $6 a week) who resided near the lost Lake Sandy.

Lake Sandy or Sandy Lake stretched from about 33rd Ave NE and 5th St NE
down almost to a point at 29th and Central, a little south of where the
golf course is today. It was a little larger than Powderhorn Lake,
maybe 1/4 to 1/3 the size of Cedar Lake. It appears on 1887 city maps.

I guess if one wanted to stir up a hornet's nest, one could suggest
tearing down the Shoreham Yards roundhouse to restore the historic
lake (!).

Another "lost lake" was at the area around 22nd and Lyndale, where
Hum's Liquor and the Red Dragon are today. The intersection (and most
nearby basements) still floods after a big storm.

1. Don't feed the troll! Ignore obvious flame-bait.
2. If you don't like what's being discussed here, don't complain - change the subject
(Mpls-specific, of course.)
