As a member of the Hollywood theater task force, I have worked closely
with the city and the Awsumb team. I am very excited about the project and
I cannot wait to see the finalized plans. I am relieved that the project is
almost underway after years of jumping through hoops. The majority of folks
are very pleased and are willing to help out any way they can, although
there is minority group of neighborhood opposers and homophobes. As for the
wine/beer license, most people that I have spoken to are in favor. There
are a few confused souls that think there is a bar moving onto the street.
In fact drinks will not be available unless you are a paying customer with a
ticket to a show. I know most people interested in an evening binge won't
pay a $15 ticket price for a mug of suds.
I doubt there will be a problem with people "peein' on my pansies" and lewd
behavior in the streets. This seems to be the biggest argument for opposing
a wonderful project.
