Minneapolis NAACP takes to the street
in protest against itself

During the heyday of the Civil Rights
Movement in the 1950s and 60s, the NAACP
was at the forefront of that historic
struggle, leading demonstrations and
protests. The legal, if not necessarily
the societal goal of those battles
was achieved, but such tactics have been
little used by that organization in recent years.
That, however, has changed for Minneapolis.
On Friday, August 1, ongoing internal
tension at the NAACP Minneapolis Branch
spilled over into the public arena when
members picketed in protest of decisions
and actions by its leadership.
