Hello Minneapolis Folks:

On Friday, August 8, 2003 Mr. Bob Brown, Mendota
Dakota Cultural Chair left on his journey to the
Spirit World. He was a passionate advocate for saving
Minnehaha Park and Coldwater Springs from the
re-routing of highway 55 and protecting his
communities traditions and culture. He was a
courageous, warm and gentle man, who worked to create
positive outcomes for his people.

I last saw Bob at the annual Mendota Medwakaton
POWWOW, several weekends ago. The Mendota held their
first modern day POWWOW were Highway 55 reroute was
eventually built in 1998. I asked Bob the first year
the Mendota Medwakanton held their POWWOW in Mendota
if he felt like the community in Mendota was being
supportive of them having a POWWOW. He said, "The
police Chief in Mendota wrote a letter supporting our
POWWOW, the local church donated land, and the City
Council approved it unanimously. In Minneapolis, they
would have tear gassed us and arrested us!" Then he
laughed.

Bob has left this world with wonderful family and many
good friends, who will celebrate his life over the
next several days.

The Mexica will perform a ceremony tonight (Monday) at
6:00 in Mendota: Old St. Peters Chapel Highway 13 and
110.

Tuesday at 11:00 A.M service will be held at the Old
St. Peters Chapel.

Please come and honor this wonderful man.

Respectfully,

Ken Bradley
