I recall from reading the article that someone stated they could
collect $200 a day on the streets asking for money. I suspect that a
hard luck story might increase collections, but I can't find the
article online to see if that comment was made.

$200 per day isn't bad. It certainly would put someone above the
metropolitan median income and disqualify them from many housing
subsidies.

Work 5 days a week, take a few holidays off and a short vacation and
pull down $50,000 a year. Presumably its tax free. Presumably because
if its gifts they generally aren't taxable. I suspect if you list your
occupation as "panhandler" on your tax return it would be income from a
trade of business and subject to the usual taxes, but hey, its still
not a bad paying gig.

They there's the overhead that covers the administrative costs of most
charity giving. The fundraising costs here are almost nil, same with
administration. Should get a good rating from the Charities Review
Council.

I'm sitting here wondering if the next wave of spam emails will be
advertising this as a way to "make 50K and set your own hours"
