Dennis' story of his neighbor and her son painting together remanded me of my childhood. My dad 'did it himself' which meant that he did the skilled parts and my brother and I did the grunt work. Amazingly, you learned a whole lot doing that (me less since I didn't become head grunt until my brother, who's older, got a real job). Anyway, we wound up spending alot of time with dad and learning at the same time.
Now my brother decided that when he had kids, they wouldn't have to help him around the house. They are now grown, live in Mississippi, own houses and don't know a thing about taking care of them. So, they call home, collect, and ask dad detailed questions about home repair. Needless to say, my brother regrets his change in parenting tactics, and, interestingly, so do his boys. By the way, it works with girls, too. I wish I had learned alot more from dad since, as Dennis knows, my knowledge is definitely limited. As we have seen on the list, there are plenty of female homeowners so dads, make you daughters help, too. By the way, the by-product of this was that my folks didn't have to worry about us being out all night. We were too tired. How times change. Anne McCandless Jordan TEMPORARY REMINDER: 1.
