I have a housemate who's phone has gone on the fritz and it's not the instrument. He makes the argument that I should pay the cost of repair as the landlady since the wires are in my house. We have 15 possible lines into the house, we use three. The other two phones work fine. Am I responsible for this bill? Landlords out there, have you ever heard of this?
This same housemate wants an air conditioner and thinks I should buy it because it's so hot. There can be no reason behind this request, can there? My common sense says no, but I want to check this out.

Landlords, can you help me out here?
