In response to Steven Clift's question:

The barricades have been removed from 1st Avenue at 28th Street so that
people from CARAG, Lyndale Neighborhood, etc can now use 1st Ave to go
downtown. First Avenue was made two way and the parking moved to the East
side of the street to calm the traffic and to make it easier for people in
Whittier to move about.

I also found it odd, and irritating I might add, that the north bound
traffic on 1st Ave was forced to either turn east onto 28th or jam up
Nicollet. Actually, I think Jim Niland did that to get more drive by traffic
for the struggling businesses on Nicollet and to give some relief to the
residents in Whittier who live on 1st Ave. Now however, Nicollet has all
the traffic it can stand, and the new two way configuration should help calm
the traffic. I think everybody wins through the new arrangement, but only
time will tell. Keep me posted on how you think it is working out.

This change is a trial for a few months and will be then evaluated. What
could kill it, is if the north bound traffic insists on speeding thru the
neighborhood. So, you commuters from CRAAG, Lyndale, etc, if you like the
barricades down, so that you can go staight thru on 1st Ave, Keep your
speed down.
