I think the line was fuzzier. I know when my dad work at Nicollet Field
- now King Field - before 35W in the '60s there were many black families
on both sides of Nicollet and as far south as 46th Street. When I was in
highschool my girl friend's family lived on 41st and 12th and had owned
their house for two generations.

When my dad work at North Commons in the late '50s and early '60s black
families lived all all over the near north side. It was pretty clear
there was a redline and city departments, boards and commissions tacitly
complied with the segregation. It seems like it still goes on now, just
more subliminal.
