Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, other elected officials and officials from the Hotel Employees & Restaurant Employees Union, Local 17, will meet tomorrow morning to ask the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) to amend the concessions plan it has put forward to accommodate and retain current airport employees. The group will gather tomorrow, Friday, September 19, at 10:30 outside the MAC, located at 6040 28th Ave. South in Minneapolis.
The Metropolitan Airports Commission plans to change how airport concessions are operated early next year and has put forth an RFP that, unlike many other airports across the country, does not protect existing service industry employees. Airport service employees are among the best paid in the industry and most receive additional benefits, including health care coverage. The MAC will take their final vote on the RFP on Monday afternoon at 1:00 in the Commission Board Room at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
