Me: Representative government does not imply sheepish submission and meek acceptance of perceived wrongdoing. I don't grasp how someone so critical of government would all of a sudden become a slave to process.

As long as the preferences are in defense of minorities and not the majority, I don't think so. We've been hearing a lot lately of what someone should look like. We were told on this list a few days back that the new Library Trustee "will be a person of color", there have been many statements about what a new Police Chief should look like. If we ever expect to have a color blind society we can't have people demanding that a person filling any position look a certain way. Suggestions of race based selection have come up at least 3 times in the past few weeks, it does raise some cause for concern.
