And, as expected, the Star Tribune TOTALLY forgets that there was an ISSUE about bringing legal guns into the Government Center. Owners were outraged at the thought they couldn't bring one in. So the Star Tribune doesnt bother to ask about legality of gun. You COULD say "Well, it was offlimits to legal guns and illegal alike, but it STILL was a major issue in recent memory. What a whitewash!
When I worked in the government center, the security was done by people hired specifically for that job. I wonder who is taking care of it now. It obviously has NOT been upgraded since 9/11.
"Impacted"
My recall is that this word, when used in reference to government policy, originated to describe areas that lost tax base due to the building of large government facilities. As a result, special government programs were created to offset that effect. I think it is being misused here.
Crazy?
I think it is crazy when cops, KNOWING how much gridlock there is, buy houses requiring long commutes. I drove down a side street in Highland Park today, thinking "what a gorgeous street this is" and wondering how anyone could find a suburban street more attractive. And now with all the multi-unit housing going up inside Minneapolis and St Paul, it isn't even a case of too many people chasing too few homes. When the Beltons hit the bigtime, they moved to the upscale area along River Road. I wonder how long till Philips gets gentrified. Then people will probably wish they hadn't been discovered.
Racism
Here's my question. There can only be "racism" if ALL members of a given race are treated in the same prejudicial way. America has received a sudden influx of Africans, and Minneapolis is no exception. Do all the behaviors we call "racism" happen to these Africans at the same frequency? Or do we really have a MIX of race and BEHAVIOR prejudice. My ancestors were labeled "dumb Swedes" because people thought they were a bit dim. But that was "normal behavior" for them. It wasn't really "dumb" at all. Well, there are some deep cultural differences between Caucasion-Americans and African-Americans. The standard behavior of the latter rile the former in some ways. Now calling my ancestors "dumb Swedes" was NOT racism. They were Nordic, super-caucasian. It was ethnic or cultural prejudice based on WASP values. Could the discord we witness be some of this, too?
Police Attack
Krasnov dismisses police violence by saying "They were answering a complaint". Apparently Krasnov doesnt know that when police hear of a domestic dispute, they are FAR less likely to rough up one of the disputants. So "complaint" doesn't equate to "provocation".
