It looks like some measurements are getting mixed here to me.  The
median income number used is for Hennepin County, but the home prices
are for Minneapolis.  I think we are interested in housing in
Minneapolis, mostly.  I would guess, but do not know, that the median
income in Minneapolis proper is a lot lower than the $51,711 for
Hennepin County.

Bill Cullen responds:

The US census number is actually the lower of the two "official" numbers I
am aware of.  HUD reports that the median income for MPLS/St. Paul is
$75,300  (1).  According to my friends in St. Paul PED, they use the $75K
number to calculate appropriate affordable housing segments.

Do families in St. Paul make a lot more than families in Mpls?  I don't
think so.

Maybe someone at MCDA would post what numbers they use?

Regardless of what the median income is in MPLS, I still believe there are
housing opportunities provided by the marketplace (without government
intervention) for families above $25K annual income.
