The neighborhood is currently awaiting finalized plans on the Hollywood Theater renovation. The development team of Awsumb & Associates ( http://www.awsumbassociates.com/index.html ) and Kim Bartman ( www.bryantlakebowl.com ) were scheduled for a review of updated renovation plans today at the state historic preservation office. The result of that review will be available soon.
At the last neighborhood meeting with the developers (about a month ago), they were working on 2 possible layouts for the remodeling of the auditorium and lobbies. Both plans called for the removal of the front left entry vestibule and its conversion into an event kitchen. The right main lobby would be preserved and restored along with its Art Deco fountain. Much in the auditorium would remain the same except for the screen wall, which would be moved forward to allow for the construction of dressing and 'green' rooms. The floor of the auditorium would also be leveled in front of the stage. This would make the space more flexible. The plans were created in such a manner as to allow for many types of uses for the space. This makes the theatre more viable in the tight market. They say that the space could be used for everything from movies and live theater to business meetings and wedding receptions. These uses depend greatly on the approval of a wine & beer license by the Audubon neighborhood association. All in all the project is moving along so that we expect construction to begin sometime in late winter/ early spring but this maaaay be wishful thinking. The Bryant Lake Bowl's financial problems could play a role in this project as well but there are no current assertions that they are.

Watch the front of the theatre in the next month or so. We hope to post the proposed drawings in the old poster cases so that all have access to view them. Also there might be some fundraising or community support events before the end of the year. I'll keep everyone updated.

E-mail me for information or for some interesting pictures of the inside and outside of the theater in its current state and that of the 1930s.
