We need action, and we need ACTION NOW on a very 'HOT' ISSUE. We need everyone to drive by and see the Franklin Bakery in operation. I mean there were HOT LUSCIOUS BUNS and rolls coming out of there last night. Wayne Kastrosky has it going on. Also there is a retail store where you can buy the best bakery goods in town, (possibly the country) as well as sandwiches and other goodies.
Shows what a difference can be made by neighborhood residents and a caring businessman like Wayne. The neighborhood worked for three years to shut down the Super America on 11th and Franklin. The place was a hot bed for the drug trade and about as dangerous after 11:00 at night as anywhere in the City (ask Barb Lickness about her experience there one night after a V V meeting). I, and the neighborhood, was condemned for killing a business the Avenue, but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and trade the street corner pharmaceutical business for other development. We in Ventura Village prefer our white powder on doughnuts, thank you! And if we want some smoke we want it coming off of some fresh baked pastry. Some might call it gentrification, but hey that is just the way it is. Instead of employing 75 drug dealers the spot will now employee 75 bakers. Both are in the mood altering business, but I happen to prefer the good mood of people after eating good food. Less hyper and more smiles. But there are plans to expand the employee numbers to possibly 150 employees. So there potentially will be twice as many people employed in the legal baking business as were previously employed in the illegal drug trade. Its what "Empower" in the Empowerment Zone means. Sounds cool (or hot according to ones age) to me, how about you? I have to tell you it was pretty neat to stand out and look through the lit windows at the bakers working last night. Large windows surround the building so everyone can see in and the workers can see out at the people appreciating their work. Puts a little commune into "Community". It also may have MAJOR public safety ramifications for that part of Franklin Avenue. Not only will it put more "eyes on the street" but also it will be an incredible lure to every Minneapolis cop in town when the doughnuts and pastries start cooking. Who wants to commit crime where 50 cops are standing around drooling and needing an excuse for being there? Yassuh brother, buns are getting hot. Right here in River City So yaw come on down now, heah.
