Behind the "constant in-house bickering and bantering" in the NAACP are differences over the strategic goals and how to fight for those goals. A lot of us joined the NAACP because we want to be civil rights / human rights activists. The people in charge of the local NAACP have been running it like a club for social climbers of color.
What's more important, who the school board picks to run the schools or how they run the schools? A lot of people who don't like the way that the school system is being run were hushed up by Carol Johnson's supporters. However, Johnson's administration didn't turn things around. "The gap" and the graduation rates are worse than when Johnson took over in 1997. I think there are some people in the NAACP who understand how the schools work, why the schools are dysfunctional, and have a general idea about how to fix the schools, but the NAACP hasn't had an educational advocacy committee since May 1999.
