Who might this republican be?

Let me put it another way: the social justice wing of Minneapolis politics will dig itself into their own hole. What has been missing is a couple of store boycotts, a race riot (read: Crown Heights), and at least one radical leftist attorney. Mr. Bernstein should read about what New York City was like during the hey-day of the Rev. Sharpton and the likes of the December 12th Movement.

To repeat: what's the plan and whose the candidate(s)???

Please don't be too paranoid. There's no cabal or conspiracy. Just inevitable self-fufilling prophecy if the "enablers" are allowed to continue. Hopefully, they will be discredited in time, along with whatever organizations give support to any further attempts to harm civil society in Minneapolis.
