Anne McCandless asked:
My biggest question to KARE 11 would be, what the heck
took you so long to notice?

David Piehl responds:
If you think carefully about that newscast - they
featured someone who's car was damaged in Uptown, and
couldn't get an investigation or a report. That's the
key. In many neighborhoods, we haven't had real
investigations or reports for years and it was
business as usual because the police in areas like the
3rd precinct where I live were too busy with other
criminal activity. Now, people in places like Uptown
are encountering the same lack of services and they
are upset. That's what took so long, it took this
long for the irresponsible cutting of police budgets
to hit areas with influence and connections. My guess
is that the result won't be additional police
officers, but that they will move police officers from
"impacted" areas to placate the "stable"
neighborhoods.
