At first I thought this was a pun! We all know that speeding and blowing a stop sign is illegal. No debate. But, we also know that if you start a fire, you are breaking the law. Don't we all know that cigarettes start fires? I have no idea where Janklow was going, so cannot attest to the necessity of his rush. However, smoking at the whee hours of the morning, is clearly a recreational activity. And 3 people are dead because of it. On the surface, I am angrier about the fire than blowing a stop sign. I have occasionally blown a stop sign and received a speeding ticket. I suspect most of us have. How many of us have started a fire that burned down a home -- from a recreational activity? > But what's this got to do with Minneapolis specifically? It has a lot to do with Minneapolis. The response from CM Zerby to the fire in SE Mpls has been to: a) Try to put Eischen out of business. I cannot attest to Eischen's business aptitude, but he was cleared of this fire. b) Put SE rental property on a quick inspection schedule, rather than keep the schedule the city already had. c) Suddenly enforce the over-occupancy laws in SE forcing students out of homes just before their final exams. The end result of CM Zerby's actions? He didn't address the problem (in fact, he appears to ignore it), and he is driving down the availability of housing to students. Decrease in supply with no change in demand equals an increase in rent. This has a lot do with Minneapolis. Just no one seems to care. Regards, Bill Cullen Whittier Landlord. P.S.
