To answer Steve Brandt's question about Don Samuels and speculation that
he'd be running against R.T. in '05: I recall reading about it in the
City Pages last summer, but I was skeptical. Samuels has always struck
me as being very entrenched in the New Guard, even before he won his
council seat in a special election. Remember that photograph of him, his
wife and R.T. Rybak? It was taken for the Strib, just after the riots in
Jordan (which occurred the summer before Joe Biernat, Don Samuels's
predecessor, was forced to resign). --------------------------------Peter

One of the most endearing qualities of Don Samuels is his willingness to
bring all stake holders into the circle. This helps facilitate problem solving. It
has been his most enduring quality, too. He may, though, sometimes sound
cryptic; like the Oracle at Delphi. This reflects his willingness toward
reflection on complicated issues; rather than glib soundbites. This in stark contrast
to our favorite amateur actor, RT, and his smiley face style of civic action;
and accountability.

I will reimburse Margaret Hastings $100 Excess fee to the Kaplan/RT deal. I
know she will help create a warm fuzzy for all attendees, there. Margaret, just
bring me your paid receipt, OK? I will make it $200 reimbursement if you will
bring a person who lives "under the bridge" along with you. But, caveat, that
person must appear in the original, unvarnished, condition. I look forward to
THOSE pictures in Mpls/St.Paul Mag.
