In response to an earlier post of today, I must come to the defense of the
skunk, as she or he is not oily. The skunk has a lustrous coat. Although the
skunk can be considered shifty (tricky or crafty) per the dictionary
definition, this is an advantage to it's longevity. As a hunter, I
encountered a skunk while stalking deer. Myself, armed with a .410 shotgun,
spotted a Skunk, as she ( males run, females are aggressive) spotted me.
She was face on to me behind a tree, as we locked gaze, she backed around
the tree, I knew what was in store, she intended to back around and attack.
Skunks attack with their pungent musk which can spray 30 feet. As the tail
started to appear around the backside of the tree, I laid a round upside of
her by 3 inches, the Skunk, having met it's match bolted, and I was left
unscented. In sum, we had awkwardly stumbled onto each other, stated our
positions, learned something, and both left unscathed.
