I acknowledged and validated one of (Eva's) concerns
about McManus, regarding his relatively short duration
at his current job (though it's been two years and not
one as you had indicated). I've also expressed
concern that McManus's current employer was surprised
that he was looking for another job. In fact, I went
so far as to say that this matter needs to be
investigated further by Mayor Rybak and the City
Council.

While I don't know all the details of how candidates
were selected, I'm under the impression that a
national search firm was used; is this the case? If
so, that speaks to many of Peter's concerns. National
search firms identify top performers nationwide, then
contact them to see if they would entertain the notion
of a new position. In other words, McManus wasn't
necessarily looking for a new position, he was
presented with a potential opportunity; most people
would investigate a potential career advancement when
presented with it. I also understand that one of the
reasons he was interested in coming to Minneapolis was
to provide a more diverse environment for his family,
his wife was originally Peruvian, and their children
are multiracial.

Though I had concerns about candidate Moose
surrounding his book deals, a friend and neighbor
who's mother worked under Moose's command gave him
very high ratings. As a female, African-American cop,
her approval of the guy is worth a lot, in my opinion.
