One more thing that I find interesting about the split on the Minneapolis City Council is that (with the possible exception of Robert Lilligren...a good guy who's been dead wrong on police issues lately) the Council Members who favor an internal candidate come from the areas of the city that are better off economically, while the Council Members who openly support McManus (with the possible exception of Barrett Lane) come from areas of the city that are less well off economically and have larger minority populations.
I would expect people from those groups that have difficult relations with police (myself among them) to loose all confidence in any relationship with the MPD if an internal candidate endorsed by John Laux is chosen. I would expect this to be election issue in 2005. It's worth noting that police federation endorsed, law and order council candidates lost more city elections then they won in 2001, and even Mayor Rybak has distanced himself from that group. Just a late night snack for local political junkies. Tamir Nolley Holland __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
