Busy with Up and Out of Poverty occupying HUD foreclosed buildings demanding they be
turned over for use by poor and homeless people. As the McKinney Act directed the
government to do
Demanding meetings with the city to turn buildings over.
When we took over the Mpls Armory-- Sayles Belton stopped by to say "you made your
point" and then a few days later she unleashed the SWAT squad to kick us out.
Demanding and having meetings with the City Council and Mayor Fraser at that time
demanding the stopping of handouts to corporations.
Where were you when we occupied those buildings, were getting arrested and
brutalized by the police?
Where were you when we confronted Brian Coyle and Sayles Belton about the moratorium
on shelters and the ridiculous rules for people to only be able to be in shelters from
7p.m. to 7a.m.?
Where were you when we occuppied the Attorney General's office at the state capitol
to demand equal treatment under the law for poor and homeless people?
Where were you the year Arne Carlson slashed general assistance benefits while
giving a handout to Northwest Airlines. We were at his State of the State--- getting
arrested for confronting him on that travesty of justice.
Where were you when we met with John Laux to protest the use of "pain compliance"
(i.e. torture) against those of use who peacefully occuppied buildings that no one
else was using, waiting for the wrecking ball?
